Our teacher, Ms Love, comes in after lunch and says, During the holidays I came across an interesting idea. It involves working with the community.
Some of us look interested. Others cough and one or two slump down on their desks. I look out of the window and wish I was playing cricket.
Ms Love puts her hands on her jeans pockets and grins at us. "I thought, after two weeks away, you'd have all come back just bursting with energy and enthusiasm."
Some of the kids groan.
Luther waves his arms around. "Shhhhhh," he says.
"Pull your head in," Grant yells.
Ms Love walks up to Grant's desk and stands there looking at him with her eye-brows raised.
Grant hangs his head. His face hots up. "So-rr-y," he bleats.
Ms Love smiles, tossing back her long, dark hair. "The idea is to help people with acts of kindness."
Acts of kindness? Sounds stupid to me.
Glen yawns. One of his supremo yawns. Ms Love waits for the awful sound to end then she tells Glen to take a deep breath and sit up straight.
Stacey stops drawing a horse and waves her arm. "What do we have to do?"
Tomorrow: What are acts of kindness?
