Unfortunately, the only song on Jet's new album that comes close to the Aussie band's first hit, Are You Gonna Be My Girl?, or the stroppy Cold Hard Bitch, is the fuzzy and noisy scorcher That's All Lies.
Elsewhere the choruses are predictable, the title track sounds like Oasis performing with Frankenfurter during his last hoorah in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the chorus of Holiday, with the stilted chant of, "It makes no difference what they say, we're going on holiday", is lazy and irritating.
There's something lame and loping about Jet and sometimes you just don't believe in what they're doing.
Singer/guitarist Nic Cester and his brother Chris (drums) have had a tough few years, dealing with the band's overnight success and the death of their father. But if anything was going to be inspiring then surely those are two things. Yet it hasn't.
One of the strengths of Get Born was its rock ballads, especially the beautiful Look What You've Done. But here, on tracks like Kings Horses and Shine On, a bedtime lullaby would make more of an impression. For real Oz rock stars see Wolfmother - at least you can believe in them.
