Bang, bang, Carl Greene's dead. He's been run off the road in what is meant to look like an accident.

But really he's been shot. Just before he was killed - and who would want to kill a small-town boy who grew up to marry the cutest girl in town and made a lot of money along the way? - he called his old high-school friend, journalist Kevin Burns.

He said he had a story for him. This comes as something of a surprise to Kevin. He and Carl were never mates. In fact, Carl married Kevin's girlfriend, Lucy.

And nobody's calling Kevin much lately. He faked a story, got found out and had to say bye-bye to his big-shot telly journo career.

To get this story, he has to go home to the small town near Denver where he will find recently widowed Lucy (aha!) and some weird stuff going on as unknown people try to steal scientist Carl's files.
