NEW YORK - Like American Idol champ Taylor Hicks, runner-up Katharine McPhee has signed to series creator Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings Limited and RCA.
The 22-year-old's interpretations of Over the Rainbow and My Destiny will comprise her first single, due June 27.
Another song from the Los Angeles native, a cover of Aretha Franklin's' Think, was made available two weeks ago on the American Idol Season 5: Encores compilation. The RCA set bowed last week at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 in the US.
An estimated 36.4 Americans tuned in to the Idol finale, the third biggest audience draw this year behind the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards.
