Address: 138 Hinemoa St, Birkenhead Point
We came here because a friend had alerted us to the fact the cafe, formerly known as Grace, had undergone a facelift.
Parking was a smooth slide into a space almost directly outside.
We walked in and immediately thought the changes to the dining area with the shortened counter and the herbs growing in pots on tables really rejuvenated the previously narrow and stark cafe.
The most unusual thing on the menu was more the focus on organic and healthy produce.
We ordered the Hinemoa omelette with portobello mushrooms, roasted red capsicums, mozzarella, salad greens and relish ($14.90 - for $1 extra you can opt for an egg white version) and the Birkenhead breakfast bruschetta - garlic-rubbed ciabatta with pesto, pinenuts, spinach, tomato and goat's feta topped with a poached egg ($15.90). The bruschetta was declared excellent, but paled in comparison to the omelette, which was truly a work of art and possibly the best I've had in a cafe.
The coffee was just right.
The service was friendly.
We recommend if you come here take the opportunity to try some of the organic options and, if you're a keen gardener, take home one of the cafe's bags of coffee grinds - great compost, apparently.
Overall we thought it was such a pleasant change from the previous interior with its fresh colour scheme and variations on favourite breakfast treats.
