Journalist Geoff Chapple leaves his own footsteps in our history. Putting in the hard yards, he walks the length of the country and, in his usual polished style, writes a book about it to bring his goal of a national walking trail closer to fruition.
Chapple walked 2600km, linking old Maori trails, DoC tracks and small towns and had, as he says, "terrific meetings with people - that happens naturally when you come in on foot". He aims to have the national track officially established by 2005.
