A glittering 900 guests dined and danced the night away at the inaugural Mayoress's Charity Gala Ball at Manukau City's TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on Saturday night.
Hosted by Mayor Len Brown and Mayoress Shan Inglis, the evening raised $290,000 for the South Auckland Health Foundation, to be used to provide paediatric bed spaces at Middlemore Hospital's new intensive care unit.
A live auction saw keen bidding for items that included a Barry Lett sculpture, a Geoff Tune painting and holidays to China and Vanuatu.
A day trip to Queenstown for four, by private jet, went for $13,000.
The night's earnings were supplemented by $100,000 from the Lion Foundation.
