KEY POINTS:
In Harriet Wall's wardrobe there languishes a beautiful piece of embroidered Indian silk. It's a perfect match for the vintage silk Ferragammo shoes she loves, but has yet to become wearable.
"The awful thing is that I can't sew," Wall says. "It's actually getting a bit ridiculous."
It's particularly ridiculous because Wall's father and uncle are both in the fabric trade, running two large textile wholesalers.
"I've always seen bits and pieces I'd like at Dad's and just get a little piece. Now I've got piles of fabric at home but somehow I never got around to learning to sew," Wall says.
But that's about to change. Wall, a PR consultant for Cathy Campbell Communications, plans to have part-time lessons at the Vogue School of Sewing. Then she plans to make something "that will last forever" out of that piece of Indian silk. "Then I'll have a whole matching outfit."
Who are your favourite designers? Ruby for easy-to-wear pieces and Mala Brajkovic for dressing up.
What was the last item of clothing you bought? A cute bronze dress with a bow from Trelise Cooper's Cooper label.
Who or what inspires you? It's cliched, but family and friends.
Your favourite accessory? My Karen Walker sunglasses which were a gift from my brother and his girlfriend. They live on my face even when it's not that sunny.
Best fashion bargain? A gorgeous pair of vintage Ferragammo high heels that my nana gave me.
Who does the best shoes? I like the cheap ones so I can have more.
The best jeans? Nudie Jeans. They are really comfortable and don't sit too low. They're just comfortable to be in.
What endures throughout the seasons? A good haircut.
Your best beauty tip? Trilogy Rose Hip Oil daily to get rid of scars.
What can't you live without? My ghd hair straighteners - they really do solve everything.
Is there anything you'd never wear? I don't really do baggy pants.
What do you wear to work? Ballet flats and usually a dress or skirt. I'm a fan of being comfortable at work but still being a bit dressed up, as you never know what the day might bring.
If money were no option? I would have a wardrobe the size of my lounge with lots of shoes.
Any style icons? I like the classics - Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O.
Best sartorial advice you ever had? Work with what you've got. Dress in clothes that actually suit you and fit you properly, not necessarily the latest style.
You feel best wearing? Dresses. They make you feel pretty but they're easy to wear and it means less decision-making in the morning which saves time.
Most cherished item? My diamond H necklace made by Brent Sutcliffe and given to me by my parents for my 21st birthday.
Personal style quirk? My outfit always has to have some degree of matching or I can't wear it. Most overrated item in fashion? Overly embellished It bags.
