They sure make it look easy, do Auckland quartet Elemeno P. Inane melodies, lyrics attempting wry humour in their few variations on boy meets/loses/misses girl, and fuzzy guitars to keep it grinding along through the choruses. Spread over 12 tracks in less than 40 minutes and watch it go straight in at number one on the local album charts.
That's what Love & Disrespect has done with the tailwind of radio hits like Nirvana and Fast Times in Tahoe. But if it's all so catchy and effortless, there's something trying about an album's worth of Elemeno P, as it delivers another quiet-loud shift into another party-hearty chorus. It's infectious for sure, but only if it had some personality to match all the positive energy, then it might well be on to something.
