Susie Stenmark has a job most of us dream about. She's been Chanel's general manager of communications for Australia and New Zealand for more than five years, which means she's surrounded daily by the luxury French label's fashion.
"I'm the most fortunate person in the company as I work across fragrance and beauty as well as fashion, accessories and watches."
The former journalist and television presenter is in Auckland this week presenting a salon show of Chanel's Paris/New York pre-fall 06/07 collection to a lucky few.
What's the best thing about your job?
Being part of this creative hothouse that is the world of Chanel. It's endlessly stimulating.
Any downside?
I can't think of any.
Is getting dressed for work harder or easier for you than most people because of where you work?
It's easier because I can borrow from the press rack for something to wear.
Has working for Chanel changed the way you dress?
Yes, I plan my wardrobe more now, think about what I need, look for more ways to put things together in different combinations of looks.
Is investment dressing all it's cracked up to be?
Absolutely. Certain pieces can be investments because you can wear them forever. You realise the wisdom of investment dressing when you reach for the perfect little black dress and you have just the right one.
Does everyone in the office wear full Chanel at all times?
No, only me [joking]. We all like to mix it up.
Any of Coco Chanel's rules to dressing that you live by?
Wear white next to the face, particularly a white camellia - or pearls, but only with a T-shirt.
When each season hits do you have to buy a whole new wardrobe?
No, it's fun to make favourites from previous seasons work with new pieces, but I do buy something from each season.
What's your all-time favourite piece?
A swamp-green satin cropped, padded jacket. It's my go-to piece for instant rock chick.
Best makeup advice you've had?
Take time before you leave the house to make sure your skin looks good with the right well-blended foundation, don't forget blush, and the less eye makeup you wear, the younger you look.
What's the most important thing a woman can do to look fabulous?
Get as much sleep and exercise as you can.
