This title is one of many from the Dr Seuss stable but probably one of the best loved.
One wet rainy day, Sally and her brother are stuck inside with nothing to do while their mother is out. Enter the Cat in the Hat who soon livens up their day.
First of all he tries his balancing trick - a fish, then a book, a ball, a cake, a toy ship and even some milk on a dish.
But when it all falls to the ground and the fish ends up in a pot, the cat needs a new trick to fill the rainy day.
When his friends arrive and fly their kites indoors, it leaves the children in the middle of a big mess just as their mother is about to arrive home.
As with any Dr Seuss title this is a great book to be read aloud and to help children learn to read, with its masterful use of rhyme, repetition and colourful illustrations. It is a must for any bookshelf.
