The final in Deborah Challinor's popular historical saga, Blue Smoke continues the story of Tamar's rise and rise, from Cornish seamstress to Auckland brothelkeeper to wealthy Hawkes Bay landowner.
The second book, White Feathers, took us through World War I and ended with the death of Tamar's beloved husband.
This new one also takes place amid the hurly-burly of actual history: the Napier earthquake, the Depression, the International Brigade to Spain, Hitler. Challinor continues her exploration of the effects of war on three generations of a New Zealand family.
