Sao Paulo sextet CSS is made up of five girls and a guy by the name of Adriano Cintra, who also produced this cheeky debut album, Cansei De Ser Sexy (Tired of Being Sexy).
Coming on like an electro version of Pavement, there's hand-claps, churning guitars, dance-pop beats, and hilarious observations delivered glib and sexily by singer Lovefoxxx. These guys are dancing their way straight out of Sao Paulo and into a club near you. The pairing of sassy tracks Alala and Lets Make Love and Listen to Death From Above, is the highlight. There's also excellent moments on Tainted Love and they even enter Go-Gos territory on Meeting Paris Hilton.
But while it's all fun and games, and the music nifty, whether it holds up in a few years is another story. Tracks like CSS Suxxx and Artbitch - with the annoying line "suck suck suck my arthole" - squelch and belch along but have a distinct novelty-only factor.
It's patchy, but it's their first album and if it's rock'n'roll for the dancefloor you're after then you can't go past a song like Musk Is My Hot Hot Sex.
Label: Sub Pop/Rhythmethod
Verdict: Brazilian dance-rock-pop group are big on fun but can it last?
