This is a great book: wise, friendly, comprehensive. Most people who have had a marriage or long-term relationship break up and found themselves single again in their late 30s, 40s or 50s will feel that these two women have a special insight into their most personal hopes and fears, joys and sorrows.
They have drawn on the stories of many mid-life men and women whose voices provide a sense of shared experience for the reader.
There is also comment from professionals - counsellors, lawyers - and recommended further reading.
"Recycled People is about love - how we cope when it is taken from us, how we search for new love and what we do when we have it," the authors say.
"We use the metaphor of recycling because it reflects the reality of using the experiences and self-knowledge gained from the death of former relationships to establish new and often more rewarding ones."
