Bliss, True (aka Megan Alatini, Keri Harper, Carly Binding, Joe Cotton and Erika Takacs) officially, on December 15, 2000, after much suffering and internal complaints, in only its second year.
Abandoned love-child of Jonathon Dowling and TVNZ, older half-sister of Bardot (also unwell), with another American half-sister on the way. Unknown grandchild of the Spice Girls, which, while calling itself "a pretty good product," never quite found that old spice magic.
Briefly a much-loved aunty for nine-year-olds nationwide; more recently the mad aunt in the attic that no-one wanted to talk about. "I think the public will be very quick with the axe," said doting Uncle Urlich. And it was.
Only weeks after birth, the oxygen of prime-time television was switched off and, despite plans to seek fresher air (and airwaves) overseas, the group never quite recovered. The bank balance was never healthy.
Final blow delivered when Binding moved to Australia and Alatini announced this week that she was launching a new band. Will be missed ... for about a week or until the next new thing comes along. In lieu of flowers, buy the Dream CD. At a second-hand record shop near you.
