TV3 newsreader John Campbell and his wife Emma Patterson are "thrilled and excited" by the arrival of their first child. Campbell made the comments in a brief statement about the birth of his daughter on Thursday night at National Women's Hospital. The baby weighed 3.6kg and both mother and daughter are doing well, he said.
There is no word on a name as yet. But knowing the erudite Campbell, something poetic perhaps?
WISH YOU WERE HERE, NEIL: Neil Finn isn't just putting feelers out for unknowns to join him on stage on his upcoming New Zealand tour. It seems the invites have gone out further afield to some more experienced sorts. Finn may be joined on stage by musical mates including Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, Aussie singer-songwriter Paul Kelly, Sheryl Crow (who plays a pretty mean accordion when she's not singing and strumming) and Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien.

So they're both off to The Firm and their lawyers will see The Color of Money while doing their best to avoid Days of Thunder. And cut.
HEY MATE, THAT'S MY 50 CENT PIECE: The national pool competition running in conjunction with the hit Kiwi movie Stickmen is so popular it's apparently attracting stars who aren't even in the film. Chalking their names on the board for exhibition matches alongside Stickmen's cast at the Auckland play-offs include Shortland Streeters past and present including Angela Bloomfield, Madelaine Sami, Craig Parker, Oliver Driver and Stelios Yiakmis, as well as Taika Cohen (Scarfies), Jon Bridges (Ice As), and Paul Glover, Rachel Wallis and Daniel Meade (Jacksons Wharf). The Auckland heats are next weekend at the ASB Stadium, Kohimarama, with the celebs trying not to lose it on the black between 1 pm and 3 pm on Sunday. The national finals are in (where else but) Wellington on Sunday March 4.
HE WOULD SAY THAT WOULDN'T HE?: "They have impeccable taste," — U2 singer Bono said after readers of the New Musical Express (NME) picked the rock legends for two awards — "God-like Genius" and Best Rock Act.
