we came here because a friend was over from australia and we were on a shopping mission in Newmarket.
Parking was expensive. unable to find a park anywhere, we ended up in the 277 carpark. bah humbug.
We walked in and immediately thought the armchairs by the fire might look like a prime position but if you're here to eat (which most people surely are) then the tiny table in front of them is completely useless. you'd be struggling to fit your saucer on it, let alone two dinner plates.
We ordered the corn fritter eggs benedict ($18.50). my friend actually thinks all corn fritters are served this way and was rather disappointed to discover this is a massimo special and not readily available elsewhere. we also tried the massimo hash browns with poached eggs ($18.50), which were exceptional. tasty, tasty, tasty.
The most unusual thing on the menu was probably the corn fritter eggs bene. it's really like two brunches in one.
The service was below par. having taken our drinks order, nobody returned to get our meal order — even when they delivered our coffees and we made a direct request. when our meals did arrive, our waitress was completely oblivious to the fact we might need cutlery and seemed almost indignant when we requested it.
The coffee was fine. the first cup was warm rather than hot but the second was much improved.
We recommend if you come here you come on an empty tum because the meals are big and you'll want to polish off every last mouthful.
Overall we thought they really know how make the most of brunch, if only they could sort out the service.
