We came here because it was a beautiful day for relaxing in the sun, contemplating Rangitoto from afar.
Parking was easy on the side street.
We walked in and immediately thought the interior was inviting, but the alfresco area in front was even more so.
The most unusual thing on the menu was the wealth of offal, such as kidney and liver. Perhaps the crispy black pudding and pancetta potato cake with poached egg and hollandaise ($18.50) wins the prize.
We ordered the panfried lemon and ricotta gnocchi with chilli and parsley butter ($17.50) and the spiced borlotti bean ragu on sourdough with poached egg ($17.50). Unfortunately the lovely wait person returned moments later to say the gnocchi weren't ready yet, so we opted for the buffalo mozzarella flatbread with sundried tomato and tapenade ($17.50). Both it and the ragu were scrumptious.
The service was friendly and efficient.
The coffee was good.
We recommend if you come here make sure it's a sunny day when you can sit outside and soak up the view.
Overall we thought a return visit to test the gnocchi may be called for.
