We came here because it's a favourite haunt from past visits to Christchurch.
Parking was no problem, we walked.
We walked in and immediately thought it was the epitome of grungy cool. There's plenty of art, Star Wars figurines in little cabinets set into the wall, an old Singer sewing machine that doubles as a drinking water tap, and — to complete the offbeat vibe — what sounded like BBC comedy recordings playing in the toilets.
The most unusual thing on the menu was the breakfast burrito ($13.50), with beans, guacamole, salsa, cheese and sour cream.
We ordered the breakfast burrito as well as eggs benedict with a homemade potato hash ($15.50). The food was so good my partner wished out loud that he could stretch his stomach and eat what I was having as well. He assured me it was not weird eating a burrito at breakfast. The yummy potato hash was the highlight for me.
The service was speedy and competent.
The coffee was excellent.
We recommend if you come here you have a glass of water, just so you can play with the funky sewing machine tap.
Overall we thought it was probably not somewhere you would take your grandmother for a nice breakfast, but we highly recommend it for anyone else.
