24 Prosford St, Ponsonby
KEY POINTS:
We came here because Leanne had wonderful memories of a buzzing cafe on her last visit about 18 months ago.
Parking was tricky on the street, but the cafe has thoughtfully reserved three places in the garage for customers.
We walked in and immediately thought where is the buzzing crowd?
The most unusual thing on the menu was bubble and squeak with smoked venison sausages and fried eggs ($16.90).
We ordered eggs ciabatta with slow-roasted tomatoes, grilled bacon and relish ($17) and brioche french toast with bacon, banana and maple ($15.50). My eggs dish was quite fine, but Leanne was disappointed with a soggy brioche - though the strawberries hiding underneath were a surprise treat.
The service was friendly, as you would expect.
The coffee was disappointing. My latte glass was almost too hot to handle, while Leanne's coffee was rather on the cool side.
We recommend if you come here you relax while watching the fish - not in a tank, but on the big screen on the wall.
Overall we thought it was a disappointment, but hopefully we were there on an off-day. The quiches in the cabinet looked tasty.
