Romantic love is the stuff of passion and poetry. But conjugal love?
Well, if you read this anthology you'll realise that much has also been written about our greatest adventure, marriage, or, to put it in more inclusive terms, life-long partnership.
Beginning with theories and moving on through proposals, wedding days, domesticity, infidelity and forgiveness, and ending with some desperately poignant writings about the death of a partner, Mooney has built an idiosyncratic, rich collection of writings.
It includes the familiar (Shakespeare, Dickens, Woolf, for instance) and the unfamiliar (letters written in the 15th century and the 18th century diary of a farmer's wife).
Very nice to browse in.
