KEY POINTS:
1 Vivienne Westwood Let it Rock eau de parfum spray
$155 for 50ml (30ml $89)
Pink peppercorns figure in this heady mix, which is definitely one for the individualist as you'd expect from punk couturier Vivienne Westwood. Like the Soft Amber it's a blend of citrus, floral and amber, but with bergamot, jasmine and especially patchouli it's altogether spicier. Distinctive and warm.
2 Yves Saint Laurent Elle Energising Body Mist spray
$94 for 90ml
A subtly sweet, woody floral scent, this is a lighter version of the eau de parfum. Its pale pink bottle and hints of freesia offer the gentle promise of spring, though for now the richer eau de parfum in a fab fuchsia bottle (also available in a 30ml travel spray), may seem more enticing than splashing this all over - unless you're lucky enough to have central heating.
3 L'Eau d'Issey eau de toilette pour L'Ete spray
$105 for 100ml
The annual summer update of this modern classic fresh fragrance is out already and comes in a fantasy bottle you'll want to have on display, created by designer Santiago Marotto and aptly entitled 'Reve d'Eau' - a dream of water.
4 Oscar de la Renta Soft Amber eau de toilette
$69 for 60ml
Good value for this soft, warm floral which marries tangerine and pink peppercorn, rose and amber. On the sweeter side, but definitely delicate. If you fancy vanilla aromas, check out Oscar de la Renta Vanilla eau de toilette which is also on counter now, or Roger & Gallet's affordable vanilla spray.
With the enormous costs of fragrance development and marketing, it's no wonder the top-sellers are re-tooled either in limited edition bottles or in subtly adjusted blends. If you enjoy the lighter, woodier type of scents, then a summer version of CK One is coming into store, as is Calvin Klein's green floral Eternity. Jean Paul Gaultier's citrusy floral Classique is out now in a limited edition African Divinations bottle, inspired by colourful beaded necklaces.
