Random House has been publishing collections of 30 New Zealand stories for several years now and has developed quite a suite of them. The latest is an anthology of tales about all sorts of animals and mini-beasts.
Cats and dogs and, of course, a pet lamb make an appearance in these stories, but there are plenty of more unusual creatures.
It wouldn't be a New Zealand collection without some stories about possums, or wetas, or giant eels ... a kea steals some car keys; two children build a home for a koura in their granny's creek. This is unmistakably a homegrown anthology.
