Ashanti's 2002 multi-million selling debut with its run of singles set a few records — she's the only woman to have three simultaneous American Top 10 singles, for one.
The R&B star sure hasn't wasted any time getting to her sophomore album. But, if anything, it plays it safer and smoother than chapter one in its ballads.
It has a few sweetly infectious moments, with the sunny disco-era groove behind I Found Lovin', the 80s funkpop echoes of Rock Wit U, the 70s soul echoes of Rain On Me, the girl group pop of The Story of 2. But, the by-numbers lyrics, the high filler count towards the latter half and the pointless, mood-destroying between-track skits gives Chapter II the diluted feel of a sequel.
