You could take a whole line on this one because it sets itself up as such a target: an album all in te reo with Maori instruments and celebrating motherhood? Well, the sisterhood might like it, huh?
But that's unfair because Christchurch-based Tikao - formerly of the group Pounamu - has a gentle and engaging voice, her songs are diverse and strong, and the discreet use of traditional instruments and male vocals elevates the arrangements.
A tough call for most - although the liner notes explain the song cycle and Richard Nunns briefly backgrounds the Maori instruments used - but for those with te reo especially (or a baby due?) this might command more of your time than you might think.
