A photo of escalators in a central Auckland cinema has won first prize from more than 260 entries in the nzherald.co.nz Auckland Architecture Week photo competition.
Craig Plested's photo, taken at Village Cinemas in Queen St, wins him a Panasonic digital camera valued at $999.
"The geometry and patterns of the architecture of this space have been captured in a painterly composition of texture and colour that makes for a compelling image with a dynamic, urban feel," commented judging committee member Lindley Naismith of Aimer Naismith Architects.
There were three runner-up prizes of architecture books won by Parris Bambery, Won Ho Kim, and Andrew Dopheide.
Architecture Week is organised by the Auckland branch of the NZ Institute of Architects and includes public events around the city until next Tuesday. Event details are at architectureweek.org.nz.
