KEY POINTS:
Makes approximately 16 squares, depending on size
650g white sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tin condensed milk
125g butter
1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbs golden syrup
1. Put the sugar and milk into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Add condensed milk, butter, salt and golden syrup. Boil for 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
2. Take off the heat and beat with electric beaters until thick (about 5 minutes), then pour into a buttered dish and cut when set.
