Tom's parents' relationship seems an empty shell and they scarcely communicate any more. Things aren't going well for Tom outside home, either. When the going gets tough, the tough get going and Tom runs away from home.
The gentle weaving of important themes such as the need to communicate, to combat injustice and to be true to yourself, make this more than just a fast-paced story.
It's a very good read, although the teenage dialogue can be self-conscious. Cricket-lovers will particularly enjoy it.
