33 King Edward Pde, Devonport
We came here because it's only just opened - in the spot formerly occupied by Watermark - and occupies a great waterfront site a modest stroll from home.
Parking was not a problem. We arrived on foot.
We walked in and immediately thought the new decor had given the place a bit of a lift, though it is still a little bland.
The most unusual thing on the menu didn't exist - the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are all limited to standard fare - but the next table's muesli, served like a sundae, looked interesting.
We ordered savoury pancakes with bacon, banana and maple syrup ($13) plus a side order of sausage ($3.50), rosti with poached eggs and bacon ($13.50) and a half tomato they threw in for free. They were good servings - though I could have done with a bit more maple syrup - well presented and very tasty.
The service was good though they did muck up the coffee orders.
The coffee was fine - when it came - in fact Chris thought her latte was excellent.
We recommend that if you come here you allow time for a stroll along the beautiful Devonport seafront and maybe even walk up North Head to admire the view. We certainly needed a walk afterwards because our bellies were pleasantly full.
Overall we thought it was very good but - particularly for a new place trying to make its mark - rather lacking anything distinctive on the menu, the decor or the service to make it really stand out. Still, we'd happily go again.
