KEY POINTS:
All Black Dan Carter's growing fashion empire is about to kick off in Auckland.
The "shy" underwear model has confirmed through a spokeswoman that his third GAS Clothing store would open its doors in Newmarket in early October _ and the sign above the door was a big clue.
An exact launch date is unconfirmed as the former Swanndri site in Nuffield Street was still under reconstruction, delayed by a building consent and undelivered Italian furniture.
But Carter kicked for touch when approached by the Herald on Sunday for comment.
The normally ice-cool Carter was reluctant to discuss his sartorial sense for fear of saying something "naff". The 26-year-old had "great taste" and helped pick the clothes sold in his two other GAS stores in Wellington and Christchurch, said a spokeswoman.
"He'll wait until our official publicity, when he has to [talk]. He's really quite shy, you know," she said.
Italian brand GAS Jeans is a favourite label of Carter's, who also endorses adidas as part of his All Black contract and Jockey underwear.
Cameron Brewer, head of the Newmarket Business Association, personally visited the GAS store in Wellington to convince Carter's business partners to move to the country's "fashion capital".
He expected a scrum of women _ and style-conscious men _ to descend on GAS, when it finally opens to shoppers.
