KEY POINTS:
With 45,000 people heading to U2 each night, getting to and from Mt Smart stadium this weekend could be a trifle tricky.
Forget about driving right now, and start planning your alternative transportation. Gates open 5pm and both concerts are expected to wrap up at about 11.15pm.
Shuttle buses are an easy option, departing every 15 minutes, between 3pm and 7pm, from Customs St. East in downtown Auckland. Fares are $5 each way.
For a cheaper option, normal scheduled services between Midtown and Station Rd will operate as usual, for $4 one way. Likewise, the 428 to 474 buses will leave from downtown Auckland in Customs St East, travelling to Great South Rd by Penrose train station.
On the way home, a continuous bus service will run between the main gate and Britomart between 11pm and midnight.
SkyCity is putting on a free shuttle bus service to and from both concerts, departing from SkyCity Atrium from 4pm onwards. The bus will only take five loads of people to the event, so best to get in early for this one.
Special train services will run from Britomart to Penrose Station from 4.28pm on Friday or from 4.10pm on Saturday. Fares cost $3.30 one way. It's approximately a 10-minute walk to Mt Smart Stadium from the station. Trains will also run from Waitakere and Papakura.
