updates throughout the day, so you can keep up with all the action from Ericsson Stadium. Check back at nzherald.co.nz/bigdayout from midday tomorrow.
The gates open at 10.30am at Ericsson Stadium in Penrose and runs until 11.30pm. weather looks to be fine, apart from a few clouds and a light wind. Take a light jacket and don't forget the sunblock. Here are some ideas to make your day easy and safe, and remember, anyone under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets may still be available from Ticketek, phone 307-5000.

Planning for the show
Remember to bring ID, your ticket, important phone numbers, sunblock and a hat, a watch, any medication you need, charged mobile phone, pen, vitamins and enough cash for the day. If you have a chronic condition or illness (eg, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma) be sure to carry information on your condition and an emergency contact number at all times.
* Allow enough time to get to the show and through the gates. That could take about 30 minutes, including security checks, depending on the time.
* Dress for the day and weather. Wear sensible shoes and clothes and avoid jewellery that could harm yourself or others.
* A bag or pack is handy, but remember it will take longer to get into the show while your gear is inspected, and even longer if you want to check it in.
* You can take an unopened bottle of water (no glass) and reasonable amounts of food.
* Don't presume that the laws of the real world won't apply to the Big Day Out. Anyone caught holding or dealing illegal substances will be treated the same way as anywhere else.
* If you intend to meet a friend outside, choose a specific spot and time, especially if they have your ticket.
* Check the back of your ticket for restricted items such as video cameras, alcohol and umbrellas, and don't try to take them on site.
* Have a good breakfast and keep patient and calm. It's going to be a long day.
Sorting out your day
* If you are with friends and you intend to travel home together, arrange a place and time to meet at the end of the night.
* Large crowds, a long day and hot weather are tiring. Make sure you pace yourself, drink plenty of water, eat some food that will give you some energy and minimise sun exposure.
* Excessive use of mind-altering substances of any kind (including alcohol) can result in the day changing from fantastic to a nightmare very quickly. Don't forget you need to get home after the show and an ambulance isn't the best or cheapest way to do so. Ask for help if you need it.
Crowd control
* Crowd surfing, moshing and circle dancing will not be tolerated. Offenders may be removed from the site.
* Water may be sprayed on the audience in the areas in front of the stages, so watch out for your phones and cameras.
* Consider the safety of others as well as your own, especially in front of stages. If someone falls down or is in distress, help if you can or let security or the Crowd Care team know.
Crowd Care teams
To let the St John and security teams focus on the real safety issues, Crowd Care teams of volunteers have been organised. They will wear bright orange jackets and hats and will help with water distribution and audience monitoring, especially away from the stages. If you have a basic question or urgent problem, they should be able to help you or find suitable assistance.
Security
At all times you will be required to abide by any reasonable request or command from the Big Day Out security, who are primarily there to keep the festival safe. If you need help or if you see someone needing help, tell them at once.
Emergency evacuation
Under extreme and unlikely circumstances, a building, area or the entire site may need to be evacuated. It is imperative that you follow all instructions and directions from emergency services, police, fire brigade or security.
First aid
There will be several St John Ambulance stations around the site to treat people who are ill or have hurt themselves. Try to keep your demands on them to a minimum.
Waste disposal
Where recycling stations are available, please make an effort to use them.
Lost property and uncollected items
Auckland: Valuables will be held at Auckland Central Police Station, phone (09) 302-6400. Non-valuables will be held at Gate C of Ericsson Stadium.
