How to fit double the amount of clothes in your suitcase

Packing for a holiday is stressful enough especially when you're desperately trying to squeeze that extra T-shirt into your suitcase without having to rearrange your luggage from scratch.

But there's some handy packing hacks that will help you squeeze double the amount of clothes in your suitcase, according to the Daily Mail.

Sarah Bennett of Make Do and Mend, a vintage fashion boutique in Pop Brixton, has shared the packing hacks every traveller needs to know and they'll change your life.

1. Pack belts and cables in collars

If you are packing shoes or boots for your holiday in your case they can be quite bulky and take up room. Make use of the space inside your shoes and pack things such as belts, battery chargers and cables that can curl inside them.

It also stops them getting tangled up with everything else in your case and you know where to find them.

2. Attach jewellery to muslin

Packing jewellery can always be tricky when going on holiday. To stop earrings getting tangled up together, take an old muslin face cloth and pierce your earrings through the cloth or hook them in to the top half.

Then fold up the bottom half and then across putting the two together. They are kept safe and separated.

3. Pack underwear in a sarong

If you are going on a beach holiday and taking a sarong, fold your sarong into a decent sized square, place all of your knickers inside and tie it up into a parcel.

You can then squeeze it into a gap in your suitcase. In between shoes is always good.

This handy trick keeps your underwear separate and makes it easy to whip it out and into a drawer once at your destination without flinging your knickers everywhere.

4. Create a capsule wardrobe

If you are packing a capsule holiday wardrobe where you can only take limited items, try and pack your wardrobe tonally so that all of your items will go with each other.

You can interchange pieces easily and have a well put together outfit every time.

5. Use cotton wool to prevent smashed glass

When travelling with a compact with a mirror either in your hand or hold luggage to prevent the glass breaking, place cotton wool inside to protect the glass.

6. Use cling film to prevent toiletries leaking

It's everyone's holiday nightmare to open their suitcase and find their liquids have leaked inside and ruined their holiday wardrobe.

Always put your liquids into a separate plastic bag and then pack in your wash bag. Tie handle sandwich bags are the perfect size to fit a shampoo and shower gel bottle.

But for added leak prevention, unscrew the cap if you can, place a layer of cling film over the top and replace the cap; this should ensure no leaks.
