The majority of fitness fanatics are the pits at keeping their workout kit clean, with many confessing to only washing their sweaty rags after every third visit to the gym.
It also emerged that women were the worst soap dodgers of all, with only a fifth washing their kit between each workout.
When it comes to gym etiquette, men, remarkably, were the more considerate sex with over a quarter claiming to pull-on clean clothes for each training session.
However the poll of 1,456 Brits found not everyone shared the same high standards of hygiene. When questioned further, it transpired that of those who claimed to wash their kit after every use, a third revealed this actually meant they only changed their top.
Sport and fitness retailers Sweatband.com who conducted the research, found the most common excuses for re-using workout clothes amongst fitness junkies included saving it for a bigger wash (24 per cent), that they didn't have enough gear (22 per cent) or that they simply couldn't be bothered (17 per cent).
