A Chinese woman who demanded to know why her boyfriend had dumped her was shocked to discover that he was actually a woman in disguise.

Wang Qi, 40, met her boyfriend online and had at first resisted his advances.

She told Chinese media that he persisted even though he knew she had a young son, they had gradually become friends online and later met.

Once together, the friendship grew stronger and developed into a romantic relationship.

Wang said that they had shared intimate moments in bed together but not had intercourse as her boyfriend had told her they should wait until after their planned wedding.

The woman, from Zhejiang Province, who met her online lover in 2016, was shocked when he suddenly vanished.

When she tried to contact him, none of the numbers or other contact details she had worked.

However she had been to visit him at his home and had met his parents.

Convinced that he had another woman, she did some detective work and obtained an identity card of his. Only then did she realise that her lover was in fact a woman and that she had been duped.

Contacted by local media, the fake boyfriend's parents admitted that their daughter had always been a tomboy but said that the young woman had come along with him as a friend and denied that there had been any deception on their part.

Meanwhile the devastated Wang said that there was no way she could have known because her boyfriend was flat-chested and always used the male bathroom when they were together on a date.

Wang is now considering legal action, saying that she lent her boyfriend money and wants it returned because he lied to her about being a man.
