This stupid little frog came from nowhere this week and stormed to the top of the music charts. Axel F, performed by an animated German frog called Crazy Frog, is actually a ring-tone and knocked Akon's Lonely off the No 1 spot on the singles chart.
It is the first time a ring-tone has made No 1 in New Zealand.
The Crazy Frog 10-second ring-tone became so popular that German producers Bass Bumpers took the 1980s tune Axel F and merged it with the ring-tone to create a proper song. Axel F was originally composed by Harold Faltermeyer for the 1984 Eddie Murphy film Beverly Hills Cop.
Crazy Frog already topped the British charts, so it was only a matter of time before it did the same here.
Let's just hope our Christmas No 1 isn't by a bloke called Mr Blobby, like the British No 1 so often is.
Crazy Frog is the second cartoon character to go to No 1 in New Zealand. The first was Do The Bartman in 1991, from The Simpsons.
