MELBOURNE - Heath Ledger's leading lady Michelle Williams has declared Australia her second home at the Australian premiere of their film Brokeback Mountain.
As drizzling rain fell in Melbourne, the American beauty revealed she was thrilled to be attending the first premiere down under of the controversial film with her co-star and boyfriend Ledger.
Williams says she and Ledger along with their baby daughter Matilda Rose, plan to spend time between their home in Brooklyn, New York, and Australia.
So being in Melbourne has been a treat for her.
"It is sweet," said the 25-year-old of walking the red carpet hand-in-hand with Ledger.
"Now Australia is my second home and we want to spend equal time in both places. It's nice to get to know both Melbourne and Sydney."
Wearing a low cut black knee length dress by New York designer Jill Stewart, Williams smiled nervously for cameras with Ledger by her side.
The couple joked between themselves about the media attention with Ledger looking lovingly and reassuringly into Williams eyes as camera lights flashed.
When asked for a picture on her own, Williams declined and stuck close to the Aussie man she fell in love with on the set of Brokeback Mountain - a film that explores the forbidden love of two gay cowboys.
While their daughter was nowhere in sight, one fan gave the pair a present for their newborn wrapped delicately in pink baby paper with pink ribbon.
More than 1,000 fans lined the street leading to the Rivoli Cinema in East Hawthorn where the premiere was held, expecting the event to be a star-studded affair.
However, apart from the film's talented stars, only a handful of Australian entertainers attended, including comedian Chris Lilley, Neighbours star Carla Bonner, Love My Way's Asher Keddie and last year's Australian Idol contestant Lee Harding.
