Aunty Daisy, the eating habits of 19th century tourists and cooking with food from foodbanks are just some of the topics to be examined at an unusual conference starting today at Victoria University.
The New Zealand Culinary History Conference will examine the importance of food and cooking in the history of New Zealand and Australia.
Dr Kate Hunter says her interest in food history arose from a study of rural culture in 19th Century in Australasia.
She says in those days cooking was an essential and enormously time-consuming activity.
