Grey Lynn-based hip-hop group Nesian Mystik have jumped to the top of the pre-Christmas music charts with their debut album.
The five-man band's first album, Polysaturated, clinched the number one slot in its first week of sales, ahead of Shania Twain's highly anticipated Up, two blockbuster Eminem releases, and The Best of U2 1990-2000.
Sales of the album have passed 7500 (gold) and are heading towards the 15,000 mark (platinum), say distributors Universal Music.
Nesian Mystik, who formed at Western Springs College and recorded Polysaturated at a house in Ponsonby, will begin a national tour to promote the album early next year.
Dean Godward, of Bounce Records, which released the album, said the high-flying debut was a remarkable achievement and something the Mystik boys had worked extremely hard for.
The band has followed Polysaturated's release this week with the release of the third single from the album, called For the People.
