KEY POINTS:
Thousands of people heading to Auckland Homeshow will have the opportunity to learn how to create an eco-friendly home.
For the first time the homeshow, which opens at 10am today, will have an area dedicated to teaching visitors how to create a sustainable, eco-friendly home and reduce their carbon footprint.
This year, a team of nearly 8000 people worked for up to 10 days to set up the show which covers 30,000sq m with bathtubs, portable homes, display kitchens, gardens and cooking classes.
Richard Bews, commercial director for the show's organiser, DMG New Zealand, said this year's show was the best yet.
"It is the biggest homeshow in Australasia and has some great things on display."
Mr Bews said the free property know-how seminars had been a favourite in the past and this year would be no different.
The know-how stand has practical advice for homeowners and also teaches people how to prepare a house for sale.
Another must-see is the Floradell street - a fully landscaped street of houses equipped with mosaic garden stones, decking and a pool. Builders were working well into last night to finish the street in time for the opening today.
Also at the show is a cooking theatre where some of Auckland's top chefs will be cooking.
And it does not end here. Jim Townsend, who built a house for the Floradell street, said although he had not slept for the two months leading up to this show, he was already ordering plants for next year's.
