A loyal market vendor, Harriet Falvey has now opened a pop-up store. Here she tells us what she loves.
Designer Harriett Falvey is one of seven designers who are part of the City Designers Market in Auckland, established in 2008 after the Aotea Markets shut down. The boutique market, inside the Ellen Melville Pioneer Women's Hall in Freyberg Place on Fridays and Saturdays, recently celebrated its second birthday. Falvey has opened a pop-up store with Misty Lang to showcase her feminine and retro-inspired designs but she continues to take part in the markets each Friday and Saturday. "Since we started we have built up a huge fan base and developed friendships with all our loyal customers, who pop in regularly to be sure they don't miss out on our limited edition designs," says Falvey, who launched her label in 2005 and is proudly New Zealand made.

10 FAVOURITE THINGS
1. Misty Lang jewellery
Misty is one of my friends at the City Designers Market. I have more than 15 pieces of her jewellery because every time she makes something new I fall in love and need to own it. My favourite is my octopus necklace, which is my biggest statement jewellery piece; it looks great with all my nautical outfits.
2. White bunny rabbit light
I bought him from Macy Home and now he lives on my dressing table. He is wearing my gold bow necklace, which I tie to look like a bunny bow tie.
3. My Toyota Hiace van
I bought it two years ago when I started doing Ponsonby Rd Market as well as City Designers Market on Saturdays. It has become my portable shop, and my friends tease me about being a fashion gypsy.
4. Pelican dress
This is part of my latest collection "Polly wants a cracker". It is the most colourful garment I have ever owned and is my new most-worn piece of clothing.
5. Grey Lynn Park Festival
My favourite day of the year, I love it more than Christmas. There are hundreds of stalls full of the most amazing things. Not to mention the music and food. This year I had three stalls, two for clothes and one full of cushions that I made especially for the festival.
6. Sundays
No matter how I spend my day I love Sundays. One of my favourites is breakfast with friends, then home for an afternoon with my scrapbook. Designing is definitely one of my favourite things and even on a Sunday I don't consider it work.
7. My couch
It is the first piece of furniture I bought and I love making cushions for it.
8. Fabric
I am drawn to stripes and bold graphic prints; I love working with different textures. I always try to make the perfect pattern for each fabric, and give fabric a good home.
9. Flox Art
I bought one of her pieces from one of the Cut Collective Art garage sales, it is of a tui. I also have the matching singlet from City Designers Market.
10. Fashion magazines and photography
My ultimate favourite is Troyt Coburn - his photography is so crisp and inspiring. One of my 10 wishes would be to work with him one day to photograph my clothes with his creative direction.
