Hanks voted America's favourite film star

Tom Hanks has been voted America's favourite movie star of 2004.

The 48-year-old actor has starred in more than 30 hit films, bagged two Oscars and now come out on top of the Harris Poll.

Hanks managed to squeeze out Mel Gibson, who was last year's favourite.

The only female star to make it into the top 10 was Julia Roberts, who's been on the male-dominated chart for the past six years.
