How odd... Just yesterday Out-of-Work actor emailed me suggesting I write a blog on men's hair when, lo-and-behold, this story was released.
It's Brylcreem's list of the best and worst British male celebrity hairstyles of the year.
And a curious list it is...
For one, James Morrison's hair is utterly vile. It is greasy and rank and definitely not worthy of the number two spot on the list.
Secondly, how is Paul Bettany's hair ranked fifth worst, when it is virtually the same cut as Jude Law's and Gary Barlow's - both of whom topped the best hair lists?
Finally, at least two of the men on the 'best' list have shaved heads.
While I am actually quite a fan of the shorn look, I'm not sure it's actually eligible for the list.
There is a marked difference between good hair and no hair...
Men's hair is a curious beast. I couldn't tell you what makes a good man's haircut but I can spot a bad one a mile away.
I do know this much though; when it comes to hair, you get what you pay for.
Many men insist on getting $15 haircuts from the local barber who has been doing their hair since childhood - and it shows.
A good stylist is invaluable. They will take your "short back and sides" direction and make you look good.
But do not fall into the trap of giving a stylist free reign with your hair.
A former flatmate once went to a salon (a particularly nasty, mall-based chain salon) and told the girl to do "whatever".
He returned two hours later with what can only be described as leopard-like spots of brown "lowlights" through his naturally blonde hair.
And a set of poofy hair curtains not seen since the days of Chandler Bing in the first season of Friends.
It was only after a week of constant harassment from friends and family that he returned to the salon and insisted she fix it.
The end result was little better, but at least the leopard spots had gone.
The whole situation could have been avoided had said flatmate stuck to the two most basic principles of men's hairstyling.
1. Unless you are in a boyband or married to a Spice Girl, men should not dye their hair.
2. No male over nine and under sixty years old should have a centre part.
