MIAMI - US punk-pop band Green Day has captured eight nominations for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "American Idiot" to lead nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards.
Rocker Gwen Stefani and rap artist Missy Elliott each won six nominations and the Irish band U2 had five.
The 22nd annual MTV awards will be handed out in Miami on Aug. 28. Rapper Kanye West, American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson as well as Green Day are among the scheduled performers.
The Video of the Year nominees are: Coldplay for "Speed of Sound," Kanye West for "Jesus Walks," Green Day for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell for "Drop It Like It's Hot" and Gwen Stefani for "Hollaback Girl."
Nominated for Best Male Video are 50 Cent for "Candy Shop," Kanye West for "Jesus Walks," Beck for "E-Pro," Usher for "Caught Up," and John Legend for "Ordinary People."
For Best Female Video: Amerie for "1 Thing," Mariah Carey for "We Belong Together," Gwen Stefani for "Hollaback Girl," Shakira for "La Tortura" and Kelly Clarkson for "Since U Been Gone."
