KEY POINTS:
A 98-year old great-grandmother in Australia proves you are never too old to be a champion athlete.
Ruth Frith is a world record holder in shot put, discus, hammer, javelin, weight throw, long jump, triple jump and the weight pentathlon.
Although she doesn't take part in international competitions anymore because she can't take the strain of flights, she competed at the Masters Athletics meeting at the University of the Sunshine Coast earlier this week and plans to compete at a Sydney meet in 2008.
Despite being legally blind, Ruth still lines up in a wide range of track and field events, with only a couple of limitations, Australia's Sunshine Coast Daily reported.
"There's a real skill to running curves - you have to shorten your stride and change your arm action," Ruth said.
"I don't enter in the high jump - I like to keep my feet on the ground."
