Sarah Hutchings' passion for all things Italian is obvious, from the jewellery she sells to the clothes she wears. The former midwife launched Orsini Fine Jewellery after an Italian venture exposed her to the beauty of European jewellery.
Hutchings opened the boutique in the heart of Parnell in early December, selecting and importing gorgeous cocktail rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants, necklaces and more. Her glamorous sartorial style reflects her love of Italy, with favourite designers including Italians Giorgio Armani, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada.
What's your biggest indulgence/guilty pleasure?
Shoes, I have always had a passion for expensive European shoes.
Who does the best shoes?
I still remember my first pair of Robert Clergerie shoes, they always looked fabulous with any outfit and they last and last.
Your favourite accessory?
Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, and my Pianegonda necklace which goes with just about anything.
Best fashion bargain?
A vintage black and silver dress with pearl beading and a bold art deco style pattern. The dress cost $100 and looks amazing on.
Who or what inspires you?
The designer Franco Pianegonda, whose jewellery I stock in my store, is very inspiring. He has some amazing quotes, like, "Creativity comes from a readiness to do whatever it takes to reach a goal. Or knowing that it takes creativity to keep coming up with the unusual. Not an easy road to take, but none is more satisfying."
What endures throughout the seasons?
Jewellery. Quality jewellery will last a lifetime.
What's the one thing everyone should have in their wardrobe?
If you accessorise with beautiful jewellery it finishes the outfit, whether it be jeans or a cocktail dress.
Your best beauty tip?
Sunscreen, but unfortunately it is a bit late for me as I already have sun damage. Women from England who don't spend as much time in the sun have amazing skin.
What can't you live without?
My handbag, it is always stuffed full for any emergency. I always get hassled about what I lug around.
How do you define the word "fashionable"?
It doesn't necessarily mean having the most up-to-date look as this can be very fickle. It is wearing your clothes with a sense of style and being beautifully groomed.
Your favourite shop?
Georgio Armani store on Sloane Street in London. When we lived there we used to visit it regularly on a Sunday. A croissant from Patisserie Valerie cafe around the corner and then a browse through the gorgeous luxury stores along Sloane Street. My idea of heaven.
If money were no option?
I would buy the latest model Porsche 911 Carrera S. We have an old model that we like to drive on the weekends. Great fun! Would definitely be a smoother ride as the older models are a bit bumpy.
Is there anything you think the fashion police should ban?
Baggy sweatpants.
Whose wardrobe would you most like to raid?
Sarah Jessica Parker.
You feel best wearing?
A great-fitting pair of jeans - bootleg or skinny with a stunning pair of high-heeled shoes or boots. Also, my blue-star covered pyjamas, they are cute and comfy.
Most cherished item?
My mother had some beautiful jewellery and when she passed away the jewellery meant a lot to me. I particularly love her baroque south seas pearls which are big, creamy, white and uneven in shape - they always look stunning.
Most stylish city?
Has to be Rome.
