Singer-songwriter and frontman of the Go-Betweens, Grant McLennan, died at his Brisbane home yesterday. He was 48.
McLennan died in his sleep, the Go-Betweens' website reported.
McLennan and Robert Forster formed the band while at university in Brisbane in the 1970s. The Go-Betweens became prominent in the Queensland music scene with songs such as Bachelor Kisses and Through the Streets of Your Town.
The Australian Performing Rights Association recently voted McLennan's Cattle and Cane one of the 10 greatest Australian songs.
