You may not know it, but you could be a poet. Is it so hard? To be a bard? Find out tomorrow in the annual Montana Poetry Day.
The day was first set up in 1998 to highlight the shining talents of our wordsmiths and draw attention to the fun of poetry.
There is plenty going on around the city tomorrow, so there's no excuse not to join in:
Auckland Central Library (12-3pm): Poetry Now, a series of three readings with Michael Rudd, David Hornblow, Robin Kora, Janet Charman, Sonja Yelich and Raewyn Alexander, with the third session featuring musician Mahinarangi Tocker.
Vulcan Lane/ Queen St corner (all day): The Poetree, a "tree" with branches made of poems.
Takapuna Library (2pm): Stu Bagby, Lee Dowrick, Wensley Wilcox and others.
Corban Estate Arts Centre, Mt Lebanon Lane, Henderson (1.30-4pm): Local poets and storytellers, including Noodle String, Jocelyn Aydon and Waitakere Mayor Bob Harvey.
Pakuranga Library, Reeves Rd (1-8pm): Pakuranga Poets' regular monthly group shares its celebration of the finalists in the Montana Poetry Category.
Hard To Find Bookshop, 238 K Rd (7-9.30pm): Divine Muses - women poets and a guest musician.
Grand Hotel, Helensville (8pm): Red Room Poets Present readings by Iain Sharp, Joy MacKenzie, Susan Allpress, J.M. Woods, and MC Trevor Conn. The floor is open to all.
Muldoon's Irish Bar, Moana Ave, Orewa (1-2.30pm): Readings from the winners of the Orewa local poem competition.
Gus Fisher Gallery, University of Auckland, 74 Shortland St: Poetry Symposium - two days of readings and discussion; see www.nzepc.auckland.ac.nz for details. Plus, third birthday gala reading (8-9pm), with 13 poets performing new work, including Murray Edmond, Michelle Leggott, Bob Orr, Sonya Yelich.
English Department common room 426, University of Auckland, 14a Symonds St (2-3pm): State of the Art, with poets Robert Sullivan, John Newton, Genevieve McClean.
