A 7-year-old prescribed medical cannabis for severe seizures has received a promise of support from a stranger.
West Auckland real estate agent Mohit Takyar has pledged to donate $150 for every house he sells - or up to $1050 each month - for Zoe Jeffries' Sativex prescription.
Takyar said Zoe's plight, highlighted in last weekend's Herald on Sunday, touched his heart. His nephew Nitin Takyar has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, just like Zoe.
"It is very personal for me so I just really wanted to do something for Zoe and her family," the Barfoot and Thompson agent said. "Nitan's seizures are mostly controlled with medication so I really feel for Zoe's family that her seizures are not."
Karen and Adam Jeffries were given Ministry of Health approval to give Zoe Sativex three weeks ago. The drug is the only cannabis-based medicine registered with Pharmac, but is not funded. Each bottle lasts around four weeks and costs $1050.
