Gardening: "I can't help thinking that the way forward is to cover the earth with forests of food." So says James Samuel, Waiheke Island resident, who is spearheading the project of planting a food forest on the Island.
A food forest is just that, a lush plantation where everything is edible.
Says Samuel: "From the roots, to the herb layer, to the shrubs, offering berries, to the trees, offering fruits, to the canopy layer with its nuts and the vines that grow up through all of that." The movement has started well: $2500 was recently raised on the crowd sourcing website pledgeme.co.nz to kickstart the project.
